It was a clear, cold night in September, 1985, when the discovery of the RMS Titanic, that had been lost for nearly 75 years, was found.
Efforts to salvage the ship began soon after the sinking occurred and continued through the years, but it wasn’t until the 1980’s when the Woods Hole Oceanographic Institute in Massachusetts teamed up with the French Institute for Research and Exploration of the Seas that the famous ocean liner was located. The deep-sea explorer, Dr. Robert Ballard, was aboard the Knorr, Woods Hole research vessel, at the time of the discovery.
