- Breed: Pug - Ages: 4 1/2 Months - Weight: 10 pounds - Color: Black
For adoption: Black Male Pug Puppy. Born 02/07/09. Approximately 4 1/2 months old. He weighs around 10 pounds right now We adopted him approximately a month ago from a breeder. He is AKC registerable. I have his papers and health certificate. He is very playful and energetic. We had named him Piggy. He gets along well with cats, dogs and kids. Very friendly and sociable.
Details about Piggy: We got him with the intention of keeping him, of course. We were prepared for puppy playfulness and hyperactivity. We didn't anticipate just how extremely hyper he would be. The main problem we are having is that he won't stay off of our 11 month old. He jumps all over him and won't let him alone. And our son is too little to get away. Of course, we know Piggy just wants to play. But it is really difficult for us to be able to let him out where we can keep an eye on him because the baby is there, too. We've really been wavering back and forth with this decision. Because while we know Piggy will calm down eventually, we are feeling that maybe it would be better for him to have a home with someone who has the ability to spend more time with him and who doesn't have the roadblocks with that that we have.
We do crate him which he is doing well with. He sleeps all night without having any accidents. And he gets let out ever 2-3 hours during the day. You have to watch him, though - because sometimes he'll go out and play rather than go to the bathroom, then come inside and have an accident. He does not like to go out in the dark or the rain and needs someone to go with him and watch him.
He chews a lot. On everything and anything. So be prepared and make sure you have lots of things that he can chew on without getting into trouble. We buy him chew bones which he goes through quickly. He has some toys he likes, but prefers shoes or the kids' toys. So if that's an issue for you, I just want to make you aware. We have put towels, blankets, dog beds in his crate for him and he has chewed everything up. I know puppies chew. I just didn't realize how much.
He craves constant attention - from you, your family, other animals. He wants to be with someone all the time. Like I said, he is very active. He runs and runs through the house like a tornado.
He eats Puppy Chow which we have available at all times when he's out of his crate. He is due for his 16 week shots, but his 12 week ones were given closer to 14 weeks.
Do some research on Pugs to make sure this is the right breed for you. They can't be out in the heat for more than the time it takes for them to go to the bathroom. - especially black ones like Piggy. They tend to overheat very quickly. They also have some potential for breathing problems because of their smashed-in faces and eye issues because of their buggy eyes. We've also started seeing a couple of fleas. Unfortunately, they are in this area and since the animals go outside, we just try to keep them under control. He gets bathed with flea shampoo a couple times a week and does well with this.
I'm not trying to discourage anyone. I just want to make you aware of any potential issues up front before you decide for sure. I'm sure you know it's a big decision. And I wish I had known about some of his quirks beforehand. He's a sweet, adorable puppy and I know he would make a wonderful pet. I'm just thinking it's unfair of us to keep him under the circumstances.
We are asking an adoption fee of $425 which does include his nice-sized, open metal crate, his harness and leash and his toys. This is how much we paid for him - the supplies did not come with him, so we aren't making anything. We just want him to find a good, loving home.
