- Breed: Scottish Highland - Ages: Born July 5, 2008 - Color: Red
Niall is a purebred Scottish Highland bull calf. He is a medium red color and comes from a red mother and a white father. Niall was born weighing about 18 pounds and currently stands about 25" at the hip. At maturity, we estimate Niall will measure 36-38". Niall should be a great addition to a miniature cattle breeding program, as a pet, or as a 4H show animal.
Scottish Highland cattle are an age old gentle natured, hardy breed of cattle. They are a dual purpose breed; while kept primarily for their high quality beef production, they also have the ability to serve as a milker producing very rich milk. Highlands are known for their beauty; they are identifiable by the long coat (suitable for spinners), as well as their regal horns. Easy to keep - they can thrive on brush and rugged forage, and are known to be easy birthers. Their docile and calm nature generally allows them to be kept in pastures with other non-aggressive livestock and also allows for easy human interaction. The people of the Scottish Highland region long ago shared their homes with these gentle cattle during the winters to help create warmth. Being very adaptive to their environment, they have proven to thrive in even the Texas heat. Highlands are one of the oldest domesticated cattle breeds known.
