We Founded The Shorkie Club Of America For 2 reasons

The Shorkie Club Of America is Open to any breeders that will open their home for a licensed vet inspection and provide a letter from a licensed vet that they are not a kennel facility. All dogs and shorkie puppies must be 100% family members. They must get all the genetic testing done on the adults they breed. It is that simple. There is no cost to join the Shorkie Club Of America.

We are the only registry at all that requires genetic testing for heart kidney liver hips and eyes. Not even the AKC does.

So if a breeder is not a member of the

Shorkie Club Of America it is because they have not applied for wahtever reason or they have not done the genetic testing required to be a member.

Don't ever be fooled by this statement from any breeder:

"We have had our lines for 20 years and do not have these issues in our lines."

The only way to know if you have genetic issues on your lines is to have the proper testing done my the Specialist. A regular vet cant tell whether a dog is breeding quality or not.

Properly selecting AKC mates for purebred dogs is a science. Breeders select not only for conformation (body type) but also for personality and character traits.
