We have a dog named Shadow that is a family member through and through. He is a good watch dog, and barks when he needs to and stops when he needs to. He'll cuddle with your kids, lay on his back in the sun, and is a very loyal companion. He loves to be petted. He loves cats, and will wash them daily. We live on a farm. Shadow has pointer in him and he gets excited when he sees any kind of bird (may be a great hunter, too)
We have chickens on the farm. Not being the fastest or brightest of birds, they lay there when he decides to catch them and chew on them. We've tried a shock collar, scolding him (he'll go right in his dog house) and the like. Nothing has worked. We decided to tie him up from noon to dusk for a few days when the chickens are out but can't have him live his life like this. He is a wonderful dog in all other aspects and a great farm dog if you don't have chickens. We hate to part with him but can't keep finding chickens in the yard.
